Reimagining a factory
2020
with Caterina Zatti
Lying in the outskirts of Bergamo, the 25.000 square meter former Pesenti cement factory is a monumental 19th century remnant of the first industrial revolution waiting for a new life. The generous and regular space of the former cement silos is adapted and transformed into a crucial space of the contemporary landscape, a data center. Its waste heat can be the base for a greenhouse and a research laboratory studying the enormous potential represented by the medical use of tropical plants.
The project was developed in the Studio of Martin Boesch at the Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio during the spring of 2020.
