During the Spring of 2020 in the atelier of Martin Boesch at the Accademia di Mendrisio the task of reinventing a former cement factory, nestled within the milanese periphery, resulted into a proposal of transforming it into a datacenter connected to a research lab and a greenhouse. Datacenters are generally depicted as abstract post-human spaces, resulting in a disappearance from the public opinion’s perception of the workers that enable these enterprises. With my research I’m interested in underlining the physical dimension of these facilities and present them as a workplace, by researching the spaces and places of the “datacenter people”.
