Garden cities: soundscape research
2022
Through on-site environmental sound recordings, the production of soundscape diagrams and the developement of a new visual representation of sounds, this research aims at critically understanding the urban environment as an ecosystem. Within the context of analysing the redevelopement of the neighbourhood of Schwamendingen (Zurich) and with the support of dr. Nadine Schütz at ETH, I demonstrated how the current garden city of Dreispitz, constructed in the 1940s and which has been gradually evolving over the course of the last seventy years, has a radically different sound profile than a newly-built garden city which is supposed to stand as a model for its future developement.
